The Holy Quran is a wonderful and captivating book that helps us in every aspect of our spiritual, physical, and moral state of life. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) first received revelations in 609 CE in a cave on Mount of Hira, near Mecca by Angel Jibril where He was asked to Say ”Iqra (meaning: recite)”. Moslems regard the Quran as the most important miracle of Muhammad.

List of all chapters in the Holy Quran and their meaning in English

The Quran consists of 114 chapters (surah) of varying lengths, each known as a sūrah. Each chapter in Quran is classified as Meccan or Medinan, depending on whether the verses were revealed before or after the migration of Muhammad to the city of Medina.

However, a Sūrah (Chapter) classified as Medinan may contain Meccan verses in it and vice versa. The title of the chapter in the Quran may be derived from a name or quality discussed in the text, or from the first letters or words of the sūrah.

The first chapter in Quran is Suratl Fatiha which contains seven (7) verses while the last chapter is Suratl Nas which has six (6) verses, meanwhile, the smallest chapter in the holy Quran is surat Kauthar (chapter 108) which contains three (3) verses.

Quranic chapters are not arranged in chronological order, in fact, the chapters appear to be arranged roughly in order of decreasing size. Some scholars argue that the sūrahs are arranged according to a certain pattern.

Each sūrah except the ninth chapter (Surat Taubah) starts with Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem (بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم) which means ”In the name of Allah, the most Merciful, the most Gracious.”

There are, however, still 114 occurrences of the Bismillah in the Quran, due to its presence in Quran chapter 27 verse 30 (Surat An Naml verse 30).

The Quranic content is concerned with basic Islamic beliefs including the existence of God and the resurrection. Narratives of the early Prophets, ethical and legal subjects, historical events of prophet Muhammad’s time, charity, and prayer also appear in the Quran.

The Quranic chapters contain general exhortations regarding right and wrong and historical events are related to outline general moral lessons.

The word Quran appears about 70 times in the Quran itself. The Quran is divided into Surahs (chapters) and further divided into Ayahs (verses). Meanwhile, the Quran contains 6666 verses.

Any person who has memorized the entire Quran is called a Hafiz (memorizer). An ayah (Quranic verse) is sometimes recited with a special kind of tone reserved for this purpose, called Tajwid.

Some Moslems believe that they must perform a ritual cleansing with water (Wudu or Ghusl) before touching a copy of the Quran. Recitation of the holy Quran by menstruating and post-partum bleeding women has been made permissible by the Malikis, Shafis, Hanbalis, Abu Hanifa, and a number of other scholars.

Do not near Quran if you are internally or externally impure, in fact, the sexually defiled man/woman can at any time he/she wishes to remove that state. He/she can make ghusl and if there is no water then they can perform tayammum.

During the month of Ramadan (Moslem obligatory fasting month), Muslims typically complete the recitation of the whole Quran during Tarawih prayers.
