Computer Science course outline in Polytechnic for ND and HND

Computer science is the study of computers and computing as well as their theoretical and practical applications. It is a course that can be studied in university and polytechnic. In this article, I am going to discuss with you course outline for Computer Science in any Nigerian polytechnic.

The Computer scientists apply the principles of mathematics, engineering, and logic to a plethora of functions, including algorithm formulation, software and hardware development, and artificial intelligence.

Now, let’s start discussing course outline for Computer Science in polytechnic level!!

Computer Science course outline in polytechnic

Gaining admission into National Diploma in Computer Science, the requirements are:

  • Five credit level passes at SSCE or equivalent at not more than two sittings. The five subjects must include Mathematics, Physics and any two other science subjects. At least a credit pass in English Language is required.
  • A pass in Engineering trade and credit passes in Mathematics and Physics and one other subject in the National Technical Certificate. Also a credit pass in English Language in the NTCE is mandatory.
  • Four credit passes in an NBTE recognized Pre-ND course offered in a Polytechnic or similar post secondary technical institution. The credit passes must include Mathematics, Physics, and any two science subjects. Candidates must in addition obtain at least a credit pass in English Language.

The course outline for Computer Science in any Nigerian polytechnic right from ND I first semester down to HND II second semester is shown below one by one.

National Diploma (ND) level

The National Diploma (ND) program in computer science is designed to produce computer technicians to install, maintain and repair computer hardware and peripherals. More specifically, computer science students at the end of the ND program should be able to:

  • Carryout routine maintenance and repair of computers
  • Design and map out layout for computers
  • Prepare simple bill of quantities and specification for computers
  • Select and use appropriate instruments to carry out simple tests and measurements on all subsystems in a computer and its peripherals.
  • Install, set up, and operate computers etc.

  1. Well this is absolutely impressive, but I was just thinking I can study cyber security under computer science diploma, unfortunately to me it wasn’t like that. So I will like to learn form u guys as to facilitate my understanding on computer science because I will like to graduate with good grade and so that I can still study the cyber security later.
