1. Address of the sender
An informal letter is a type of letter which always begins with the sender’s address on the top left–hand corner or the right-hand corner. Next, write the date below the your address on the right or left-hand corner. The date is followed by an appropriate salutation such as “Dear, name of that person”. You can also use the title ”Dear Dad, Mum, Sis etc.”

2. Date of writing a letter
In informal letter, there are no rules on how to write a date because it is a letter that is going to someone you completely know, for example, friend, wife, dad, brother, etc. hence, you can choose to write your date in numerical form like “30-03-2022,” or an abbreviated form like “30th March 2022.”
3. Address of receiver
Another format of an informal letter is the address of a receiver. The salutation used in informal letter must be friendly. You may greet the receiver as ‘Dear/Dearest’ followed by their first name/nick name. In rare case, it is advisable to greet your elders with respect such as Dear Grandma/Dear Grandfather and not use their names. Following these rules will add mark to your work if it is in exam.

4. Salutation/Greeting
A good informal letter writing must also contains salutation/greeting. Salutation itself is a greeting used in a letter or other written or non-written communication. Salutations can be formal or informal. The most common form of salutation in an informal letter is Dear followed by the recipient’s given name.
5. Body of the letter
A body of a letter is the content or your discussion in a letter. It usually consists of three paragraphs, introduction, content and conclusion. In the introduction of your letter, you should state your reason for writing. In the body expand on what you mentioned in the first paragraph and in conclusion section, clearly recommend what should be done to solve existing issue if any.
6. Conclusion
After the completion of writing your informal letter, another important next step is concluding it. The conclusion of an informal letter is typically refers to as closing salutations using a phrases like “Yours truly,”, “Your friend,”, “All the best,”, Take care,”.
Nowadays, more friendly closing salutations are also acceptable, such as: “See you soon,”, “Don’t be a stranger,”, etc. If you use them, you would get extra mark.
7. Signature of the sender
In informal letter, after making your conclusion and closing it with appropriate closing remark like ‘Yours sincerely’, then sign with just your first name. Please don’t add your surname and title.
