United Bank for Africa, popularly known as UBA is one of the best commercial banks in most countries in the world. UBA operates in many countries and it’s known as the best.
Some countries which UBA operates or does business in are:

- Zimbabwe etc.
In this article, I will show or discuss with you every step of opening and account with UBA step-by-step.

UBA Account Opening Guidelines For Nigerian In 2021
If you’re in Nigeria, the following steps are useful for you to take if you want to open an account with UBA.
Step one: type of account
Before you can continue to open an account you want to open with UBA, it’s very important to plan the type of an account you will open.
There are many types of account which UBA does offer or let people open with them. Some types of an account which person can open with UBA are:
- Savings account
- Co-orperate account
- Current account
- Domiciliary account
- Business account
- Fixed deposit account ETC.
That is to say, the type of an account you want to open is in direct proportion to the documents you must have got. If it’s a savings account you want to open, the documents you must have got will be lesser than domiciliary account’s.
Step two: documents for opening
For opening any type of an account with UBA, you must have got one or more identification documents. At this point, the documents you must have got is incomparable as I don’t really know the type of an account you want to open. But, I will try my best to explain everything.
#1 documents for opening UBA savings account
Savings account is a type of an account which individual can open with UBA bank. This type of account requires few documents for opening.
Documents to open savings account with UBA and how to apply step-by-step online by yourself are outlined below.
Voter’s card, two (2) pieces of recently snapped passport photograph and a minimum N1, 500 opening money. Please note that the money you will open an account with is for you, that is, you can withdraw it in future.
Now, how to apply online with your smarthphone or laptop by yourself? Let’s dive into that!
- To open UBA savings account, click here to visit UBA website
- After the website has been opened successfully, then click on open savings account
- As shown in the picture below, if you click on open savings account button, you will be directed to another page where you will be entering into your information
- Now, to click on open savings account button as shown in the image above, click here
- After that, you will be promoted to select your country of residence and finally the location of where you presently live
- If you are in Nigeria and want to open an account in Nigeria, select UBA Nigeria account.
- At this point, you can use your BVN to open or you can continue to open it without BVN (please everything should be learned from the images I am sharing in this article).
- Note that by selecting or clicking UBA diaspora account button, you have shown that you are a Nigerian but living in another country, abroad and you must provide every required evidence of that
- After clicking on UBA Nigeria account button or tab, now it’s time to enter your details or information
- Ensure that you have snapped a passport of yourself and save it in your device (computer or phone) in order to upload it while entering into your details
- Enter your title (prof, Mr, Mrs, Chief, ETC)
- Enter your name: first name, middle name (if available) and last name
- Select your Marita status (married, divorced or unmarried)
- Choose your gender
- Enter your telephone number and date of birth
- Enter your email address and choose the country in which you were born
- Select your occupation (student, farmer, business man ETC)
- After you have entered all these details, you will have to visit nearest UBA branch for proof of your humanity, thus, choose the branch you would visit
After you have entered everything correctly, then visit the branch you have chosen to visit in the next working day. If online registration is completed successfully and correctly, you will be given an account number.
When you have arrived in the UBA branch, tell any staff about what you want him/her to assist you with
#2 documents for opening corperate account with UBA
Corperate account is a type of account which bears official name, for example, fastknowers blog (account name).
Now, to open corporate account, below are the things or documents you should have:
- A valid means of ID (International passport/Driver’s license/National ID/Voter’s card)
- Passport photograph (for business, one for each of the owners)
- Utility bill (not exceeding 3 months old)
- Certificate of Incorporation/Registration/CBN or CAC License (for business enterprise)
- Two references from current account holders
#3 documents to get to open current account with UBA
Current account can be opened by individual with UBA bank. This type of account is where the participants will be getting high interest rate.
According to UBA, it’s 2% interest rate earned monthly on your current account balance. For example, if you save N200, 000, the amount you will get monthly from your saving is 2% of your money.
- A valid means of ID (International passport/Driver’s license/National ID/Voter’s card)
- Passport photograph
- Utility bill (not exceeding 3 months old)
- Two references from current account holders
#4 domiciliary account of UBA (documents and everything)
Domiciliary account is the type of an account that can let you receive and send money internationally. If you’re in Nigeria and want to send money to another country, domiciliary account can help you.
Documents for the opening of domiciliary account with UBA are:
- A valid means of ID (International passport/Driver’s license/National ID/Voter’s card)
- Passport photograph
- Utility bill (not exceeding 3 months old)
- Two references from domiciliary current account holders

#5 documents for opening business account with UBA
What is business account and how can you open one with UBA?
Business account is the type of account which bears the name of the business. For example, my name is Abdulrazaq Yahaya and it is easier to let my account name bear the name of my business provided that I have got the required documents.
Required documents for opening business account with UBA are:
- A valid means of ID (International passport/Driver’s license/National ID/Voter’s card)
- Passport photograph (for business, one for each of the owners)
- Utility bill (not exceeding 3 months old)
- Certificate of Incorporation/Registration/CBN or CAC License (for business enterprise)
- Two references from business current account holders
Note that your account status must be upgraded from savings to current account before you can then replace your account name with the business name.

#6 documents to open fixed deposit account with UBA
Fixed deposit account is the type of an account that allows individual to save money which can be withdrawn at the fixed period only.
this type of account is very important to open especially if you’re planning to do things in future while is not up to the cost for doing it.
UBA pays 6% and above on fixed deposit account. For example, if you save N500, 000 in your fixed deposit account, you will get 6% interest rate when ever you’re going to withdraw.
Fixed deposit account is very fast to open with UBA. In fact, five minutes is okay to do. The documents for opening fixed deposit account are as follows:
- Passport photograph
- Personal telephone number
- Must be above 18 years old
- Any legal means of identification (NIN or voter’s card)
- And cash for opening with.
