Electrical and Electronic Engineering curriculum in Nigerian polytechnic

Do you want to study electrical and electronic engineering in the Nigerian Polytechnic? In this article, we will discuss with you the curriculum of studying electrical and electronic engineering in Nigerian polytechnic one by one.

Being an electrical and electronic engineering student in the Nigerian polytechnic, you are expected to face a lot of practical, project, laboratory work, in fact, the curriculum more than the student studying it in the university.

Differences between electrical and electronic

The Electrical Engineering (EE) covers large-scale production and distribution of electrical power, whereas Electronic Engineering (EE) is about much smaller electronic circuits, such as those found in computers and other modern technologies, hence, electronic engineering is often studied alongside with computer science.

Studying an electrical and electronic engineering in the school, be it in polytechnic or university will teach you how the industry works, equip you with the engineering skills and technological knowledge necessary to design, assess and improve electrical and electronic systems.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering curriculum

The course Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) comprises laboratory work, tutorials, lectures, project work in groups and as individuals.

After learning the foundations, you can specialize your chosen area of interest (examples include power generation and supply, communications and media, and robotic systems).

During your learning as an electrical and electronic engineering student, your curriculum is to:

  • Construct simple electrical and electronic circuits when necessary for use in modification or as a part of a system;
  • Assemble, install and test-run simple electronic equipment;
  • Carry out both preventive and corrective maintenance on simple electronic/electrical installations, equipment and appliances;
  • Select and use appropriate instruments to carry out simple test and measurement on all types of electrical and electronic equipment under various operating conditions.
  • Operate relevant equipment and installation whenever required;
  • Prepare simple bills of engineering measurement and evaluation (bills of quantities), and specification relating to electrical/electronic engineering works;
  • Coordinate and supervise craftsmen in activities related to electrical/electronic engineering service;
  • Maintain a personal logbook to record your daily and weekly activities for each semester.

Requirements to study electrical and electronic engineering
